POSTED: MAY 27, 2008 by Citizen Tallee

We're still adding back all our old content, and working to get things running smoothly again at the Blood Theatre. As always, we're on the prowl for people interested in a staff writer position. If that's you, send us an e- mail along with a sample of your stuff. We've got plenty of new content on the way, including our very own coverage of a recent Rue-Morgue sponsored screening of MANIAC! As well as an in-depth look at the underground sensation that is "Fan Films". We'll sort out the good, the bad, and the ugly. As always, more interviews in the works. Until then, sign up on the FORUMS and say hello. Until next time, folks, keep it bloody, keep it sick, and keep the gore flowing! |
THEATRE UPDATES: NEW ARTICLE | B.T. ON LOCATION IN TORONTO

On the evening of May 16th, I found myself walking the streets of Toronto (with staff writer Shredi Knight), as we made our way to the Bloor Street Cinema for a special screening of Bill Lustig's "Maniac". Having seen the film only once before--on a super grainy, low light transfer that made the original print of Texas Chainsaw look like Lucasfilm had remastered it--I was walking into the film as not the greatest fan of it. However, what really had me excited was that they were not only screening a newly remastered copy, but that Bill Lustig himself was going to be in attendance and would be available after the film for a Q&A session. The opportunity to watch Maniac with Mr. Lustig himself was something I considered to be once in a lifetime . . . READ MORE

WEBSITE NEWS: MESSAGEBOARD RETURNS
POSTED: OCTOBER 20, 2007 by Citizen Tallee

Well peoples, we finally have a bit of news here at the Theatre. The messageboard is back up and running, after we encountered quite a few problems with spambots. Hopefully this new software we're using should work a bit better and we don't have to start over again. So once again, I apologize for everyone having to re-register once again, but I swear this should be the last time. In addition to this, we're getting set to celebrate Halloween with some new features which should be online soon, and we've also brought back our banner exchange. Anyone looking to swap banners with us should check out the "features" section. Finally, we're still looking for people interested in writing reviews. If you'd like to submit some stuff for possible inclusion on the website, drop us an e-mail. Anyways, check out the new messageboard, and enjoy counting down the days until Halloween! |

THEATRE UPDATES: NEW REVIEW | ULTIMATE AVENGERS 2

Okay, by this point you're probably getting the impression that I didn't like the film. Not the case at all -- in fact, despite the bizarre plot, I rather enjoyed this reasonably short (with a running time slightly over an hour) animated romp from Marvel. Firstly, I appreciated the fact that it wasn't necessarily geared towards kids. I mean, it wasn't intended strictly for a mature audience in the same way that the animated Spawn features are, however, there was in fact on-screen blood and violence... not to mention a couple unexpected deaths. This, believe it or not, was important to the film, as it added that extra element of realism, and gave weight to the characters and the situations they were presented in. These were heroes that could die -- and that was important to know . . . READ MORE |
THEATRE UPDATES: NEW ARTICLE | CREAM OF THE CRAP!

The first film in question is one of my all time favourites, Nailgun Massacre (1985). Finally seeing a DVD release, this is one of the worst, most entertaining films I have ever seen. The plot is simple. A woman is gang raped (although her pants are never removed in the scene) by a crew of construction workers. Shortly afterwards, a series of brutal murders are committed in the area. Our first view of the killer is nothing short of hilarious. A black motorcycle helmet, with black electrical tape obscuring most of the visor (because it was just tinted, not mirrored) covers the killer's face, and presumably alters his voice into a booming, electronic parody of Darth Vader. It also seems to allow him to laugh menacingly while also speaking, a feat I have yet to master. This head gear tops off a fashionable camouflage jumpsuit and a portable (and bright yellow) hydraulic tank which powers his weapon of choice: the nail gun . . . READ MORE
